August 10th, 1799 Duel

A gentleman from New-York informs that a Duel was fought at Powels Hook on Saturday morning last, between a captain of a merchant vessel, and a person from one of the southern states. They were both wounded – the former having his left temple grazed by a pistol shot, and the latter his skull fractured by the ball striking him on the upper part of his forehead: It was supposed he could not survive.[1]
